Ingathering 2024
The Thanksgiving Ingathering is a way for Iowa United Methodists to address hunger problems locally and around the world. Micah 6:8 says that the Lord requires us “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” When we share from our abundance we are acting justly and reflecting our desire to serve God.
NOVEMBER 2, 2024 -The Ingathering team is pleased to continue its partnership with Midwest Mission. They are an UMCOR Cooperating depot, and also partner with many other nonprofits. They regularly ship three to four containers of humanitarian relief each month, domestically and internationally.
The kids Midwest Mission is focused on in 2024 are outline for your convenience, along with updated lists of specific supply needs for each kit type.
Other items for Midwest Mission will be accepted at the sites. Please no bikes at this time. They will accept medical equipment and supplies, non-electric tools, fire gear and equipment, and other items.
Below are the items needed for the 2024 UMCOR kits:
PERSONAL DIGNITY KITS help disaster victims reclaim their dignity and self-respect and are used as teaching tools with children. When people can maintain personal hygiene, their overall health improves. Please include $2 per kit in the Thanksgiving Ingathering check delivered to the site. It will be used by the UMCOR Depot to purchase toothpaste.
1 new hand towel (15”x25” up to 17”x27”); 1 new washcloth; 1 bath-sized bar of soap in wrapper (3-4 oz.); 1 new adult size toothbrush in original sealed wrapper, not child-sized; 1 Shampoo (12.5-19 oz.); 1 Deodorant, stick, roll or pump (2-3 oz.); 1 Lotion (8-10 oz.) no pump; 1 one gallon size re-sealable plastic bag
Lay out hand towel and lay washcloth flat in center. Place rest of items on top of washcloth. Fold sides of towel to cover items. Fold one end of towel so it covers all items. Grasp bundles of items and roll over rest of towel tightly. Place rolled bundle in one gallon zip-lock bag, remove air and seal. VALUE $13 plus $2 shipping
STUDENT KITS provide tools for education, which changes lives.
3 Notebooks (1 subject, approx. 8x10 1/2”); 1 eraser 2-inch or larger; 1 pair of student scissors (metal blades) 1- 12"/30 cm metric ruler; 1 pencil sharpener; 1 box of 24 crayons; 1 box of 12 colored pencils; 6 unsharpened pencils with erasers (no advertising).

Draw String Bag (pattern on website); 3 pairs of underwear (size child-10, 12, 14/women- 5-8) 1 wash cloth, 1 hand towel, 1 bar of soap (3-4 oz.); 6 day pads (pattern on website); 3 night pads (pattern on website), 1 waterproof bag (pattern on website), 1 one-handle cloth bag (pattern on website) VALUE $50 plus $2 shipping
LAYETTE KIT (All items must be 0-6 months):
6 cloth diapers, 2 undershirts or onesies, 2 gowns or sleepers, 2 infant size washcloths (no adult washcloths), 6 diaper pins - must have protective plastic closures, 2 receiving blankets (28"x28" to 32"x32", no crib blankets); 1 sweater, sweatshirt or jacket - must open from the front, may be hand-knitted, crocheted or sewn. Bundle the items inside one of the blankets and secure with diaper pins. $2 donation per kit for diaper cream. (VALUE $45 plus $2 shipping)
